Providing Services for Addiction and Mental Health Disorders

Over a million Americans entered substance use treatment in 2023. That’s a lot of people who have overlapping mental health disorders, which means they’re in the right place! However, many Americans end-up in rehab on a whim, or at least NOT a well-organized plan. You see, addiction is messy and not exactly business hours when these plans are hatched. And that’s okay because we want our patients out of danger as soon as possible. But once you’ve arrived or successfully completed detox, what are your goals for rehab? Quit drinking, stay sober, make better choices, etc.…Those are big, lofty platitude items.

We like to think of detox and residential treatment as the “ground floor of something big.” We just have to figure out what that looks like for you, but first we build a foundation that is the same for everyone to restore themselves in the five goals of addiction treatment. These foundational areas will prepare you for your “something big.”

Physical Health

Job one is to restore your physical heath. In detox, you will get tons of rest, nutritious meals, and addiction medicine to maintain strong vitals. Healthy eating, regular exercise, good sleep, and work/life balance are crucial to sustaining sobriety. If these are key areas where you struggle, set a goal related to achieving balance. Make sure it is attainable and measurable!

Mental and Emotive Health

Developing emotional health skills like self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, social skills, and flexibility will have you feeling confident in your recovery.

  • MAKE time for yourself each day

  • View problems from different point-of-views

  • Practice gratitude

  • Practice relaxation

  • Make self-care a priority

Positive Relationships

Addiction thrives in the dark and isolation. When things come to light, the truth isn’t so good and you’ve likely exhausted favorite nation status in your relationships. However, that means you can begin to work on restoration and making things right with others and yourself. This is one of the goals that will take longer but may require the greatest amount of work. Broken connections cannot be re-heated in the microwave. You’re going to have to use the stove with low, steady heat! If you’re a parent, you can commit to spending quality time with your kids every week or creating a payment plan to repay borrowed money.

Life Goals

Addiction tends to stunt the growth of young adults whose aspirations are stalled during the grip of addiction. Chasing educational or vocational opportunities to gain skills and knowledge that can help lead an independent life is estimable and forward-thinking. This is the place where a burning desire can rise to the surface, and now you’re motivated to act on it.

Personal Growth

Personal growth is a natural bi-product of successful residential treatment. It is the sum of all the things you are working on while learning about addiction, developing coping methods, and ensuring a safe, sober living environment.

In goal setting, it’s vital to make them specific, significant, achievable, meaningful, and time-sensitive. You can also talk about your goals with inner circle friends or professionals for support and motivation. Tracking your progress and celebrating your achievements can help you recognize the value of the process, your growth, and continued motivation.
